The ANZMAC Consumer Behaviour Special Interest Group (CBSIG) is dedicated to advancing theoretical understanding of the psychological mechanisms that underpin consumer judgment, decision-making, and behaviour. It serves as a forum for developing and refining insights that explain not only what consumers do, but why and how they behave, with a strong emphasis on rigorous, theory-driven research grounded in psychology. The SIG particularly supports experimental and complementary mixed-method approaches, promoting methodological depth and diversity in the study of consumer behaviour.
A central aim of the CBSIG is to build a more connected and collaborative research community across Australia and New Zealand. Despite the strength of consumer behaviour scholarship in the region, researchers are often fragmented due to geographical distance and institutional silos. The SIG addresses this by providing a structured, year-round platform for sustained interaction, moving beyond the limitations of episodic conference engagement. Through this ongoing engagement, it facilitates meaningful collaboration, intellectual exchange, and relationship-building across universities and career stages. The CBSIG also places strong emphasis on supporting early career researchers and fostering mentorship, creating opportunities for emerging scholars to connect with established academics and contribute to the field’s development. Overall, the group seeks to strengthen the visibility, cohesion, and impact of consumer behaviour research in the region by cultivating a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative scholarly network.
