The Society for Emerging Academics in Marketing (SEAM) is ANZMAC’s dedicated society supporting the next generation of marketing academics. Established and funded by ANZMAC in 2026 following several years of consultation and co-design with our community, SEAM provides a member-led network that fosters mentorship, collaboration, research funding, and professional development. The Society is also proudly supported by Adelaide University in Australia and the University of Canterbury in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Building on ANZMAC’s longstanding support for HDR candidates through the doctoral colloquium, SEAM extends that support by helping emerging academics transition seamlessly into independent academic careers.

What does SEAM offer?

SEAM delivers a year-round program designed to help members build successful academic careers through:

  • Research Development Special Session at the ANZMAC Conference, where members develop research ideas, build cross-institutional collaborations, and establish project teams.
  • Emerging Academics in Marketing Collaboration Grants, providing seed funding for early-stage research projects, teaching innovation, and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL).
  • Three annual virtual professional development events focusing on teaching development, career development and promotion pathways, and impact and engagement.

Get involved

Whether you’re an emerging, mid-career, or distinguished academic, everyone has something to contribute and something to gain through SEAM.

Emerging academics are encouraged to attend the annual Research Development Special Session, apply for Collaboration Grants, and participate in the virtual events. Mid-career and distinguished academics are encouraged to share their experience, mentor the next generation, and help strengthen the ANZMAC community.
